LPC-S, Registered Play Therapist
Individual Therapist In McKinney Tx
Hello, my name is Kim House. I began my counseling career in 1998 after graduating with my Master’s Degree in Counseling, with a specialty in Play Therapy from the largest play therapy training program in the world, the University of North Texas. My career began at MHMRA of Houston, where I provided home-based therapy to children and families throughout the Houston area. In addition, I provided parenting training to parents as well as to various daycare organizations. I later moved on to provide counseling in the school-setting to children attending Pre-K to 5th grade in a small town in Oklahoma. My most recent job prior to working in private practice at CCA was at Genesis Women’s Shelter and Support in Dallas. I spent 11 years providing therapy to women and children/teens who had been exposed to domestic violence (physical, emotional/verbal, and sexual abuse). I also facilitated parenting classes during this time in order to equip parents with the necessary tools to strengthen the parent-child relationship. I feel that working in various environments (home setting, school, and office) throughout my career has benefited me greatly as a clinician.
My areas of expertise include play therapy, child/teen counseling, and parenting training. I feel comfortable working with an array of mental health issues including grief/loss, abuse, depression, anxiety, attachment issues, self-esteem, domestic violence, trauma, ADD/ADHD, and parent-child relationship issues to name a few.
I have a passion working with children and I have seen firsthand how the power of play can have such a positive impact on a child’s life. Play therapy utilizes play, a child’s natural way of communicating in the world, to help them express their thoughts and feelings more easily through the use of toys rather than words.
When I am not working, I enjoy reading, exercising, traveling, and spending time with my husband and son. I hope to have the opportunity to work with you at some point in the future.
